Ad Deconstruction

The Ad that I chose to do was on a Men’s tailored suit. The ad was found on the internet so it’s hard to say where it came from originally. The picture is much larger than the actual text. The text that is written the biggest is the suggestive part of the ad rather than the company which is in much smaller text. The purpose of the ad is for men to buy a custom tailored suit. I happen to believe that they are trying to attract a younger male persona who is looking for sex, or is interested in appealing toward the opposite sex. When you first look at this add you see a woman in “mid kiss” then as you look further, it appears that she is only wearing a man’s suit jacket and she is pulling him in closer to her by his tie. The hook that I see is the woman not the suit that they are trying to sell. And the story that jumps out at me is that she just got done having sex and wants to feel closer to him by wearing his suit. The primary information on this page is lacking! The only fact that they tell you is that having a custom tailored suit is a natural aphrodisiac. This isn’t really a fact it’s just trying to real in the reader so no really information is listed in the Ad. This add has tons of secondary messages. For one its saying that by having a custom tailored suit is something that will intensify sexual desires. Another message is saying that if you have this suit a gorgeous woman will want to have sex with you. It also appears that the woman might be an office assistant so it may be suggesting that get a nice suit and you’ll get office assistant in bed. The overall message I believe is that “buy the suit get laid.” The types of language being used I believe would be sexual language, or portative language focusing toward men.

The only people in this add is a man and women who seem to be younger adults but still flowing with lots of energy. The setting of the ad happens to be on a counter of some sort with sexual emotions flowing through the air and the page! It has lots of natural lighting like it is in the middle of the day when the picture was taken. It might be in an office due to the books in the background. The words written are “A custom-tailored suit is a natural aphrodisiac” the caption is used to grab those who want to see if they can get a girl like this and how. There isn’t a lot of copy in the ad it’s more of a picture ad to grab you attention. Although this is just a picture I believe it has unspoken sounds. I believe that you can hear/feel the sexual tension in the picture, just by looking at the two people in mid kiss. There are only a few elements in the picture, the woman, the man, a suit and tie, a desk, books and a window in the background. The women and man are the elements that are being emphasized the most in the ad; the facial expressions on their faces seem to be sexual or intimate. The body language is proactive toward sex. I think for the add type that they seem to be going for they didn’t really leave anything out they could have made it more distinctive as to where were, and possibly could have tried to make the window have something in the background rather than just a bright light. The color in the ad is cool and warm, and the lighting suggests that it’s the middle of the day. The type of photography shot being used was probably low angle with perspective in it. It’s like it’s a shot of a slice of life that could happen. The only details that displayed are the nice suit on a naked woman who appears to not be wearing a lot of make up like she has just woken up or is really natural.

The intended effects are the sexual matters of the picture/ad and seductive feeling in the picture toward the suit and the two people. Some unintended effects could be that some people may think that this is offensive toward women saying that by having a fancy suit they will have sex with you. Another might be that you may think that this is an office assistant so if a man has a custom-tailored suit he will be having sex with the office “slut.” The ad is missing information about the suit, we get that the ad is for the suit but, where can you get it? How much is it? Where can you find it? Can you get different styles? When I first saw the add it thought that the ad might have been for a perfume or some sort of product for couples then when I read the caption I was struck and I had to look closer in the picture to even see the suit that happened to be on the women not even the man who it was intended for. Over all I think it wasn’t a very good ad.

Durango Snowdown (media lit first post)

Hello everyone being a local in Durango for 18 years I feel as though I should tell everyone about the upcoming week of Snowdown. Since 1979 I believe that this festival has been going on. During this week Durango hosts a theme that local businesses and locals can dress up or participate in the events being held; for free or little cost. This year’s theme is Snowdown In Da Nile! So pull out all of your Egyptian clothes and hit up the events that are out there. If you would like to view a schedule of the events during the week go to this site: http://www.snowdown.org/index.php
The last thing I would like to put out there is that the parade down town is lots of fun but chilly so don’t forget to dress warm if you go!

Thanks
Kayleigh
