After talking in class and showing all of the clips that were "spin offs" of popular films I found this video in you tube of someone taking the song Low by Flow Rider and changing it completely but sticking to the familiar melody.

Video response from class

This video was really interesting it had lots of stuff that we talked about in class and it was interesting to see how a corporation really works! In the being of film it said that a corporation owns 1/4 of a business. With this being stated it made me start to think that we are surrounded by so many corporations and we don't even realize it. We are so consumed by their products and the necessities that they instill in our head that they want us to think that we need them.

The media is trying to manipulate children so that they will buy their products at their convenience. Realizing this apple I think is one of the most manipulating corporations they instill in kids minds that they have to have this product or else they will not be "cool" AND they are always trying to come out with bigger and better things creating this spiral effect making the people buy the better things when they come out. It's a harsh world in the world of media. They are always trying to gain those extra dollars in any way possible.

In the movie it said that one company can on its own buy 12 billion dollars of media time. This can range from time on the TV to time on the radio. They are always trying to get out the message that "you need this product" "your going to so much better if you have this product." They even hire physiologists to find out what kids think of their product and what they think is "cool or In" to them. They know their target audience, the hook that will grab them, the settings that will intrigue them to buy their product, the lighting the color. They know everything that will work to sell their product. The media world is run so well they know the dos and don'ts of selling everything.

The media really is the engine that makes the world work at its course not the peoples. It instills in so many peoples minds what they want them to think, dress, act, and what is right and wrong. The Code of the media is {what ever is going to sell this product...do it}. You never hear of a corporation not advertising something and telling what the whole product is; they give you a dip of it and make it appealing to an audience that they know will buy their product.

This movie really opened my eyes to see how the whole system works and how corporations are the brains of the world and the media is the engine or the heart that gives them this power.

Merchants of cool

After watching this special from FrontLine, I was shocked to see how much the media revolves around the teen generations. But after thinking about it, it's so true! Everything is made for them since they have money just to throw away, so its an easy market to persuade. Teens don't have worry about spending money the "right" way rather just the "fun" way, they receive money from their parents so that they can just drop them off at the mall for an afternoon and not have to worry about them. Although this group is always changing and the interest's change daily by what is "hot" and what is not. Since they are always changing it would almost make sense not to make products for them rather for a group that will mostly stick to what they like or want. But that's not what happens the media wants TEENS.
I never realized how much money is spent to find out who are the trend setters and what is the "cool" as of right now. It is shocking to see that the networks will pay almost anything to get this information, and that you need to be a specialist to get this type of information. WHAT!!! I didn't think that it would be this hard to get the information; after all, all you have to do is ask the teens the questions. Even though it may seem hard to get the information out of them you really don't need a specialist, in my opinion all you need to do is offer them something for their time or be friendly.
In a part of the special they said that the media and teens go in a circle, they are always trying to change and shape each other. So if this is true then does this mean that they will ever be ahead of each other, will teens ever be able to choose for themselves? These questions came to my mind when I watching the special, the media shapes teens into what they WANT to be cool not what teens want. Its almost like the media try's to brainwash them into thinking what they are thinking not allowing teens to be themselves.
Overall I thought that this video was really interesting!

Simulacra and Simulations

After reading this piece once I was first confused as to where he was going with his point. So I had to re-read it and then kind of got what he was trying to say. The first passage that was interesting to me was when he said"Someone who feigns an illness can simply go to bed and pretend he is ill. Someone who simulates an illness produces in himself some of the symptoms" this amazes me so someone can think they are sick and try to stimulate the sickness and make some of the symptoms come to life even though they really are not sick. But then he started to talk about how if every sickness was only stimulated then the medicine loses its purpose. So I ask myself then is everybody faking sick? I think not this why I started to get confused.

When Hyperreal and Imaginary came to topic he started to compare the parking lot of Disney Land to a concentration camp! This shocked me, making the comparison to such an extreme. As I read further into the text he began to say the Disney Land is only to mask the real world with an imaginary one so that we forget the REAL way of life and reality. So if i understand right if we go to this park we are going to be "hypnotized" by the imaginary world and totally forget reality itself? I don't think so or at least that hasn't happened to me...yet.

Watergate comes up next, he goes into the fact that it is like his comparison with Disney Land. He goes into talk about how a scandal can form how we want reality to work or how it should work. I was a little confused by this point, he saying that by scandals and journalists they set up how moral something is. Or how by having these it allows us to function?

Now just to make you more confused or angry he says "Of the same order as the impossibility of rediscovering an absolute level of the real, is the impossibility of staging an illusion.Illusion is no longer possible, because the real is no longer possible. It is the whole political problem of the parody. It is the whole political problem of the parody, of hypersimulation or offensive simulation, which is posed here." So now he is saying that there is no longer any real about the universe there is only a "hyper-real" ok so there is no longer a real world it hyper real so what we are doing right now isn't real? the things we say aren't real?

After reading this article I realized that may people had different views of how everything is set up for the world to work.

I received this link from my mom a couple weeks ago. At first look it looks like this is one of those boards you can use a sharp edge tool that can scrape and it transforms colors I believe that they are called a neon art board, but as I looked further I realized that this was sand and the artist was doing everything with her hands and a scraper! WOW amazing. I would have never thought that sand could make art that is this amazing! Look at the video you might like it.

Wow!! I never would have guessed to how much media I was exposed to. Even though my log wasn't 16 hours it was fairly close I w it even if it's not my type of show! I am so consumed by it, it's like I'm an addict of TV I just love to as still exposed to many types of media that I didn't even realize. I know that I use my phone a lot but not as much as I did in one day... no wonder I have such a big bill.
I never really realized that if there is a TV playing I'll watch whatever is on. I get so sucked in by the fast changing clips and sounds I don't even think twice about what is playing or what I could be doing! TV has changed the way that many people look at the world. On a weekly basis I can watch anywhere from 8-15 hours of TV.
Even in the classrooms media effects the way I live my day to day life. I remember when they didn't have projectors and everything was written on the chalk board or white board. With all the advances in technology for day to day learning and living the way that kids and adults go about their day has changed so much in the last 18 years! Our era is the technology era. We all must accept that this and learn new ways of teaching the youth to transform the future! Media is around us, it consumes us, the media is us!

I saw a TV add for this movie and I went on you-tube to see if I could find a trailer. Here it is! Normally I don't like the whole cheerleader movies like "Bring it on" or "Bring it on 2" but this movie looks like it has a little more to it then just cheering! Even the 10 minute trailer seemed like it had a lot of comedy in it which is what i like. As we were discussing in class the other day it looks like this movie may have a few advertising techniques like snob appeal, plain folks, diversion, Magic ingredient's and so forth. Over all this looks like a great movie that's going to have you laughing a lot!

The other day a few of my friends were on this new web site called STUMBLE UPON. It looked pretty interesting so I though I would check it out.

I registered with the site and found out what it is all about. It installs a whole new web tool bar in your windows explorer or your source of internet and when you click a button it allows you to jump to a web site that they have found. It "stumble's" you across the web, you can choose your interests and it will find web sites that it thinks might be of interest to you. Your choices rage from sciences to math, painting and pictures, optical illusions to game sites.

So far it has been pretty cool and interesting, I have found many sites that I would enjoy to come to again. I would suggest that you check it out!
It seems like a good site and the good thing is if you don't like it you can always uninstall it! So go out and take a look I think it will be worth your time!
