Documentary x2

The first documentary that I watched was "The beaver people." It is a silent film produced by the National Parks of Canada. It is a shorter documentary that shows the life of a beaver and how it behaves. While i was watching this film it reminded me of the silent film we watched in class, although this film had a few words typed out to explain what is going on. It was intriguing to me to see a beaver playing around with humans when i first saw the first shot of the woman playing with the beaver I thought that it was biting her arm and hurting her, but after further looking into it I saw that it was only playing like a dog would. It was rather interesting to see how the beavers clean themselves off or how they would eat something put out in front of them. It reminded me, of a time when I was little and seeing an abandoned beaver home. We walked on it and so surprising it held up four people 2 who were adults and 2 childern. It is still shocking to me that creatures of this size can build such a sturdy home and in a short time too! Animals like this only make it more and more interesting to see and learn about I bet you would have never guessed that a beaver could be as nice for you to kiss it on its head!

The second film That I watched was called Medicating kids (2001)
It was shocking to find out that American kids are prescribed psychiatric medication four times more than the world combined. After thinking about it, Americans will more or less diagnose a person for any type of problem they might have. You always see commercials asking if you are depressed, cant concentrate, don't like being around people they name off all of these things that people may just have on occasion, and they say that you need this pill and it will help.
With the way that we are going, we are going to make people who are immune to all of these types of drugs. In the documentary it shows families that show their kids being diagnosed with ADD, ADHD and others. It brings up Ritalin a drug that helps you focus, I was reminded of this because you always here people joke that college kids are always buying Ritalin and Adderall just so that they can focus on their tests and finals, it sad to think that kids with out these disorders are taking this pill just to get a one up on focusing. It puts a negative image on these helpful drugs, to people who need it.
Although some of there are some side effects, the documentary shows and asks how the kids feel when they take this medication. It is really interesting that most of the kids say that they feel better when they take the medication and would prefer to take it. They feel like they can concentrate on school and other activities that they are participating. One case really stood out to me was a girl that was doing gymnastics. Before she started to take the Ritalin her coach said that she couldn't focus, even on simple tasks like the balance beam. After she started to take the medication her coach said that she could see a tremendous difference in her level of focus. I never really thought that these types of medication could help these kids in this big of a way.
